Leadership Team

The Flipped Learning Global Initiative is led by a team of passionate advocates for Flipped learning.  Each brings unique skills and experience to help support the adoption of flipped learning worldwide.

As Director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at MEF University, the first and only fully flipped university in the world, Dr. Fell-Kurban has the responsibility of supporting instructors and students in development of Flipped Learning. Her role has seen her undertake practitioner research into flipped learning in higher education.

Through the Flipped Learning Global Initiative, Dr. Fell-Kurban is excited to join other researchers who are passionate about striving for excellence in flipped learning for the benefit of our students. Caroline’s particular interest lies in the development of quality assurance parameters as well as the implementation of professional development programs to assure efficacy and quality of flipped learning provision in institutions of higher education.

Raul is the director of the “Master in Methodologies and Emerging Technologies Applied to Education”. He is author of “Online Training: a Guide for University Teachers”; “The flipped Classroom: how to convert Schools into Learning Spaces”; “Mobile Learning: new challenges and Realities in the classroom”; Inductive methodologies: The challenge of teaching by questioning and challenges”, Gamification: How to motivate your students and improve the climate in the classroom. He is currently taking part in several researches about the Flipped Classroom Model in Spanish language. He has been Academic Co-Director of The II European Congress on Flipped Learning. Other research fields include Evaluation Systems, Education Quality programs, online and blended learning, Teachers Training and Educational Technology

I know first-hand the power of Flipped Learning. I am honored to participate in this global initiative. Flipped Learning is completely transforming my thinking on how students develop as learners. Flipping my class is stretching me as a teacher. I am in constant awe at how my students keep pushing themselves forward no matter the task. Not only are my students owning their own learning, so am I. I have been on this flipped journey since August 2013. It is indeed an ever evolving journey with more highs than lows, more laughs than frowns, more excitement and creativity than discouragement, and more about them, less about me. I have better connections and relationships with my students than I have ever had before and I would not in a million years have it any other way. Flipped Learning has dared me to be more, do more, believe more for the students I serve.

Jon Bergmann is one of the pioneers of the Flipped Class Movement. Jon is leading the worldwide adoption of flipped learning by working with governments, schools, corporations, and education non-profits. Jon is coordinating or guiding flipped learning initiatives around the globe including China, Taiwan, Korea, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, the Middle East, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Canada, South America, and the United States.

Jon is the author of seven books including the bestselling book: Flip Your Classroom which has been translated into 10 languages. He is the founder of the global FlipCon conferences and co-founded the Flipped Learning Network, a non-profit organization which provides resources for flipped learning. He spent 24 years as a middle and high school science teacher before becoming the lead technology facilitator for a school district in the Chicago suburbs. In 2002, Jon received the Presidential Award for Excellence for Math and Science Teaching and he serves on the advisory board for TED-Education. In 2013, was named one of Tech & Learning’s 10 Most Influential People of the Year, was also a finalist for the Brock International Prize for Education and winner for the 2013 Bammy Award presented by the Academy of Education Arts and Sciences.

Errol St. Clair Smith is the architect of the Flipped Learning Global Initiative and is responsible for developing the necessary relationships, programs and projects to support the worldwide growth of flipped learning.

Errol has been organizing and developing education communities for the last 10 years and has lead community programs for several national education associations including: the National PTA, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the American Association of School Administrators, the Association of School Business Officials, the National Association of School Nurses, the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Errol has served as the Executive Director of the Academy of Education Arts and Sciences and is the co-founder of BAM Education Radio Network. A 20-year veteran of the media Errol has four Emmy nominations and one Emmy Award to his credit.

Kris Bergmann, has been a part of the flipped learning movement since its inception. She has worked closely with Jon Bergman in various support positions including, administrative support, communications, Operations Manager for the non-profit Flipped Learning Network™, conference and workshop administration, strategic planning, and special advisor.

Kris currently serves as operations manager of Flipped Learning, LLC and director of operations for the Flipped Learning Global Initiative.

Dr. Jerry Overmyer has teaching experience in secondary and college mathematics and is a mathematics course mentor at Western Governors University. Jerry is passionate in helping students understand and be successful in mathematics. His Ph.D. dissertation compared student achievement in College Algebra using traditional methods compared with flipped learning methods. He gives frequent presentations on flipped learning and is the creator and facilitator for the Flipped Learning Community – a 30,000+ member professional learning network for educators. He is the founder of the Flipped Learning Academy, which provides professional development for college faculty and recently hosted the Higher Education Flipped Learning Conference. Jerry believes that the future of flipped learning is optimizing the amalgamation of active learning and technology.
