I received my PhD from Nagoya University in Information Science and an MA in Humanities from California State. I am currently running the Academic Writing program for the Graduate Student of Law. My present teaching involves working with international students as they go through the process of writing theses and dissertations in Comparative Law. My professional interests include writing, culture, history and education. I have always been interested in ways to assist students in learning but more importantly testing new ideas in teaching writing to L2 learners who are highly motivated to express complicated ideas in English but lack the skills. There are many aspects of the Flip approach that I wish to use but I primarily desire to shift students into actually applying and analyzing more effective what they are researching so that they give more sophisticated or advanced presentations of their work. I am presently writing up grant proposals to study the effectiveness of this approach as it is quite new here in Japan.
