Rebecca Flora

Middle School Math Teacher

I am starting my 30th year of education and I currently teach 6th grade pre-algebra and 7th grade algebra at the Overlake School in Redmond, WA. A 5th-12th grade independent school on almost 80 acres of the most beautiful wooded campus.I have a BEd. Middle years Math and Science from Hallam University in Sheffield, UK and a MEd. Curriculum and Instruction (Gifted Education) from Seattle University in Seattle, WA. I started in elementary education using internet bulletin boards and ASCII files to communicated with classes around the world (and Santa Claus) in 1986 using BBC Micro Computers and Apple 2cs. I consider myself a life long learner as my idea of global education and communication is continually growing and changing. I am a certified Wilderness First Responder, a Graduate Gemologist (GIA), and a triathlete. I came to the US in 1990 on a Fulbright Teacher program to follow my dream of being an astronaut and never went home! I applied (unsuccessfully) to NASA for the Educator in Space program but used to travel to Mars or the Moon everyday when I worked in the Challenger Learning Center at the Museum of Flight, Seattle, WA!
